Mohammed Siraj Najubudeen is an Islamic finance and Shari’ah compliance professional with over 17 years of experience across retail, corporate and investment banking, treasury, product structuring, Shari’ah audit and advisory. He currently serves as an Islamic Finance Specialist in the Shari’ah Affairs Division of the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
He is a Chartered Islamic Finance Professional from INCEIF, Malaysia, a Certified Sharia Advisor & Auditor and a Certified Islamic Professional Accountant from the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), Bahrain. He also holds an LLB from the University of London, a Bachelor of Islamic Studies in Fiqh and Usul Fiqh from the International Peace University of South Africa, a degree in Islamic Theology from Al-Rashad Arabic College, Sri Lanka, and a Diploma in Business Management from the Association of Business Executives, UK.
Before joining the Islamic Development Bank, he served as Executive Manager and Head of Sharia Compliance at Alizz Islamic Bank, Oman; Manager, Sharia Structuring & Coordination at Al Hilal Bank, Abu Dhabi; and Assistant Vice President and Head of Sharia Supervision at Amana Bank, Sri Lanka. His responsibilities have covered Shari’ah review and structuring, product and policy review, Sukuk and syndication structures, treasury documentation, audit, board secretariat functions and staff training.
He has also contributed to Islamic finance education and capacity building as a lecturer and trainer, including programmes developed for the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka and the Islamic Banking & Finance programme of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. His international experience and strong grounding in Shari’ah, Fiqh and Usul Fiqh bring significant technical depth to SunTrust Bank’s Non-Interest Banking activities.
